At a time when sometimes we seem divided and people seem to be arguing all the time we really have to take stock of how blessed we are and grateful for the men and women who serve us and be thankful that we have through all of our ups and downs and our challenges continues to stand for the values that unite us: freedom and democracy and opportunity and by supporting you all who will serve in the future--Hillary Clinton (ABC News, October 1, 2014).

Pol Light #74 is when George W. Bush created the W100K bike ride for veterans that took place for the first time on April 25-27, 2011.  The event is part of the Bush Center's Military Service Initiative and designed to help not only the group of veterans who are selected to participate in the ride, but also to raise awareness on issues facing all veterans after their military service is concluded.  George W. "I'll be riding across the deserts of Texas with wounded warriors to show the unbelievable character of our men and women in uniform...it's a ride to herald people who were dealt a severe blow and said, 'I'm not going to let it tear me down.'"--George W. Bush (Bush Center, W100K).

Cory Booker
Pol Light Moment #71 is when Cory Booker helped rescue a freezing dog on January 23, 2014. Cory Booker has served as a United States Senator from New Jersey from 2013 to the present. Prior to that he was the Mayor of Newark, New Jersey from 2006-2013.

On January 23, 2014, Cory Booker was notified through social media by reporter Toni Yates that there was a dog in Newark outisde in arctic temperatures.  Upon hearing this Cory Booker picked up the dog and warmed it up in a police car.  Cory Booker said this to the owners:
This dog is shaking really bad, and you just can't leave your dogs out here on a day like this and go away and expect them to be O.K. Hyperthermia on any animal, including a human animal, will set in pretty quickly. So this is very sad, you can just feel the dog shaking pretty badly (Cory Booker As Quoted by Nolan Feeney, Newsfeed, January 25, 2014).

He has served three terms as Governor during the years 1995-2003 and from 2011 to present.

KPTV - FOX 12

On May 5, 2014, Governor John Kitzhaber was on his way to dinner and driving through downtown Portland, Oregon at about 5pm, when he noticed a woman passed out along the side of the road. He asked his driver to stop and then went over to administer first aid to the woman. He gave her CPR and other medical attention until paramedics arrived to take her to the hospital. Governor John Kitzhaber is a former emergency room physician.

Paramedic Alan Ferschweiler, who arrived on the scene of the medical emergency, told The Oregonian newspaper,
"He was surprisingly calm, and you could see he went right back to the days where he was an emergency room doctor. To go and assist the governor and take over this patient from his is pretty surprising. It definitely took us off-guard (Huffington Post, John Kitzhaber, Oregon Governor, Performs CPR to Save Woman's Life, May 6, 2014)."
